Maggi Jo Keffury's Aggie Volleyball Diary :: November 28th, 2012

Hello Aggie Fans!

Such an exciting week we have ahead of us! The Aggie volleyball team is headed to Provo, Utah to take on BYU in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Last week during the WAC tournament we played really well. It was so exciting to see us finally click together as a team and play the entire game. Not too many plays were taken off and as you probably saw, we were very successful.

We hope to feed off of that energy as we make our way to Utah. This opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament is a first for almost all of our players which makes for a very exciting road trip. We keep reminding ourselves at every practice to envision what it would be like to defeat BYU. We have nothing to lose so our main motivation is to simply go out there and compete.   Continue Reading This Post >>

On the road again! We are headed out for Texas today as we play Texas State and Texas-San Antonio this week for our last road trip during conference play. We are excited to play some of the top teams in our conference and are looking for a little revenge this second time around! :)

As far as last week went we swept San Jose State at home but unfortunately lost to Utah State in four last Saturday. It was a difficult loss since we had been making positive strides the couple weeks prior. However, there were just a few aspects of our game that we did not dominate at and where Utah State found our weaknesses. You have to give them credit for the great blocks they posted Saturday evening.

Last week we were on the road competing against UTA and La Tech. Our loss to UTA was disappointing and it showed how we can't succeed while making the same mistakes over and over again.

Absolutely mistakes will happen but there has to be a time where our team will make one mistake and then overcome it with the next play. By that I mean that we cannot dwell on the previous play and an urge to bounce back right away has to be our mentality.

Points in bunches for the other team is what we struggle with, and our lack of ability to get "out of our heads" when we makes mistakes is one of our main problems. If we would just make a few less errors or make a few more plays to help us win rallies we would be able to win most of the games that we have lost this season.   Continue Reading This Post >>

Last week was so much fun because we got to see all of you out there cheering us on! We can't thank you enough for all your support. Unfortunately, the matches did not go as well as we wanted them to. We had a great win over UTSA but that was not the case come Saturday against Texas State.

Losing in five definitely was upsetting, especially because we could've played a lot better than we did. Coach told us to expect some changes in the lineup coming soon so we have to adjust to whatever comes our way.

Being a team means coming together no matter the outcome, win or loss. We have to move on from Saturday's match because we have two more coming up on the road this week. The most important game is the one ahead. We can't dwell on our past mistakes or worry about the matches in a couple of weeks.   Continue Reading This Post >>

So...this last week: Utah State and San Jose State. If you haven't already heard, we lost to Utah State in three and beat San Jose State in four. Utah State was our first loss in conference play and it was definitely a devastating one. It was our worst match played all season long up to this point.

As I've been stating in past blogs we win matches yes, but continue to make crucial mistakes that lead us to not sweeping teams like we are capable of. The mistakes that we make have to do with the same issues that occurred from the beginning of season. There hasn't been a distinct change in those bad habits and that is why we lost to Utah State. The things we've struggled with thus far, occurred all at once and throughout the entire three sets in Utah. This made for a very frustrating loss.

However, the week wasn't over and as a team we had to come together and forget about the past in order to get a win against San Jose State. During that match we played great for stretches and that was very exciting to see. Only a handful of plays in that match reflected the poor mistakes that we've struggled with before.   Continue Reading This Post >>

This last week was a bit of an interesting one as we had an out of conference away match against UTEP on Wednesday and then back on our home court on Saturday as we played Denver. We received a victory over Denver but unfortunately lost to our rivals in five sets. The match against UTEP was a bit of a disappointing one considering we did not perform at a high level.

Pretty much everything we didn't want to do, we did in that match. We couldn't get any sort of rhythm going, and we had a rough time at all areas of the court. After the match Coach Jordan came into the locker room to talk to us and as you could probably guess it didn't go too well. We as a team had to learn that we cannot depend on only a handful of people to get the job done for us, it has to be every single person working together in order to succeed. That match proved that statement. We had to also learn that when our teammates are struggling there has to be other people on the court to make up for it and step up when that time comes.   Continue Reading This Post >>

Hello All!

It was great to see everyone out there at our games this past weekend! We love all of your support. As you all probably saw we played a little better than previous matches and I feel we took steps in the right direction with some of the things we have been trying to get better at.

This week we've got an away match against our rivals UTEP! Hopefully some of you will be able to make it out to watch us play. Then on Saturday we will be back at our home court playing Denver. We look forward to getting another conference win to keep our undefeated record!

Wish us luck as we head into the week.

We can't wait to see you all! Go Aggies!

Aggie fans!

Last weekend was the opener for conference play and as you probably know, we were on the road at Seattle and Idaho! Both games we received a victory in five sets, however, they were not our best matches played up to this point.

The only thing we could do during practice this week was to try and re-focus for the matches ahead. We look forward to continuing conference play and to keep receiving those wins! Hopefully we play more like the team we know we are capable of as we head into the weekend. It is all about making strides in the right direction and getting just a little better every day.

We can't wait to see all of you guys and we hope you can make it out to one of the games!

All the best and GO AGGIES! (we want 2 more W's after the weekend!:) )

Hello All!

So this past weekend we traveled to Colorado where we battled against Florida International, Pepperdine, and Colorado State in which we went 1-2. The games we lost to Pepperdine and CSU were very competitive and although we lost I felt we took a step forward in the right direction.

Our defensive game picked up and some changes to the mistakes we've been making before were made (as in they did not happen as often as before). We're only home for two days this week and then it's off to Seattle and Idaho on Wednesday.

We are very blessed and grateful for the great competition we received during our preseason, however, it is time to kick things into gear as we approach conference play.

There is a huge target on our backs in the WAC but I know all of us are wanting to rise to the challenge of winning our conference. It takes one game at a time but we hope to succeed a great deal this season.

Wish us luck as we head into Conference play and we will see you all next week!

Go Aggies!

Aggie Fans!

I know most of you came out to support us this past weekend but for those who didn't get a chance to see us play, we won two out of the three matches, falling to Northwestern Saturday night. That was a tough loss for our team but we knew we did not perform up to our potential.

There were a lot of things we learned from the matches we played and the things we did not do well have been incorporated into this week's practice plans. Our mentality for this week has been to work very hard at our weaknesses in hopes of eliminating them and to make positive strides as we head into a very competitive weekend at Colorado State.

We will face some extreme talent on the other side of the net but we hope to bring home some big wins in order to play our way into the NCAA tournament early on in the season.

I hope you all have a fabulous week and we look forward to seeing you soon. Wish us luck as we head into the weekend!

All the best and GO Aggies!
