Aggies Fall to Idaho in WAC Quarterfinals

RENO, Nev. - The fifth-seeded New Mexico State women's basketball team dropped its Western Athletic Conference quarterfinal to fourth-seeded Idaho 75-63 inside the Lawlor Events Center in Reno Wednesday afternoon. Aggie junior guard Jasmine Lowe and senior backcourt mate Crystal Boyd led NM State on the scoreboard with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Boyd also grabbed 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. NM State finishes the season at 18-13 overall. Fourth-seeded Idaho improves to 11-19 on the year and will face top-seeded Fresno State Friday afternoon in the WAC semifinals. Late in the game, two treys by NM State junior guard Danisha Corbett and a bucket by All-WAC freshman Camila Rosen trimmed the Vandal lead to one at 58-57 with 4:30 left in regulation. NM State Baseball Splits Series with UNM

ALBUQUERQUE - The New Mexico State baseball team split the four-game series with in-state rival New Mexico after falling 13-4 at Isotopes Park, Wednesday, March 10. The Aggies fall to 10-7 on the year after the loss, while UNM goes to9-5. The Aggies posted four runs on 11 hits, however committed four costlyerrors. Junior right hander Dan Reid was credited with his first loss of the year after he threw 6.0 innings and gave up nine runs, six of them earned. "It was a good series and two games were well contested, while the other two went to the home team," head coach Rocky Wardsaid. "Our team played well and we were able to challenge each other and both our teams should be challenging at the top of our leagues." NM State Women's Golf Concludes UNLV Spring Invitational Tied for 16th

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The New Mexico State women's golf team finished the UNLV Spring Invitational tied for 16th with a three-round score of 935 in Boulder City, Nev., Wednesday, March 10. The Aggies carded a 319 and tied with Oregon State in the 18-team field that played on the par 72, 6,246-yard Boulder Creek Golf ClubCourse. Host team UNLV, who entered the day leading the field, finished with a 2-over-par 866 in three rounds to win thetournament. Texas carded a 4-under-par in the final day, but it was not enough as it finished second with an 878. "This was another tough tournament we played in," head coach Paul Brilliantsaid. NM State Baseball/Softball Join Wells Fargo in 'Strikeout for Bucks'

NM State Football to Hold Walk-on Tryouts

All current NM State students wishing to tryout for the football team will need to be enrolled in at least 12 hours of classes at New Mexico State, be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 GPA, played high school or junior college football, have at least two or more years of eligibility remaining and provide their own medical insurance. Aggies Look to Bounce Back against Lobos

LAS CRUCES, N.M.-The New Mexico State Women's tennis team plays host to I-25 rival New Mexico, Saturday, March 13, at 10:00 a.m. at the NM State Tennis Center. Free Pizza will be provided to those who attend. The Aggies (5-7) look to break their two-match losing streak by beating the in-state rival. "Rivalry games always mean more, just like UTEP did. It's been a long time since we beat UNM and I think we have a good chance this year," head coach Don Ball said. The Aggies fell to the Lobos 5-2 in 2009 and had their last victory over UNM in 2002, giving UNM a 14-2 record over NM State since 1981. The Lobos come into the match with a 1-8 record after falling to Boise State and Washington State in February. UNM meets UTEP Friday, March 12, before meeting the Aggies in Las Cruces. The Aggies expect to be back to full strength this weekend after senior Sophia Marks sat out from competition last week. Marks has been out of her No. 1 singles spot for the past three matches.

New Mexico Natives Lead Aggies to 14-10 Win Over No. 22 UNM

ALBUQUERQUE - The New Mexico State baseball team defeated No. 22 New Mexico by the score of 14-10 at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, Tuesday, March 9. With the win, NM State goes to 10-6 on the year, while the Lobos fall to 8-5 on theseason. Sophomore Scott Coffman, an Albuquerque native, was credited with the win and goes to 1-1 on theyear. He worked 3.1 innings and struck out five of the 14 batters he faced, while giving up only three hits and not allowing a ball. "Coffman was brilliant today and he went out and played outstanding," head coach Rocky Wardsaid. "He showed leadership today by coming in with some pressure against our in-state rival and threw well." Adam Heredia, a Las Cruces native, and Roswell native Justin Cooper also chipped in throwing a combined 4.1 innings, while left hander Ryan Beck threw 1.1 innings. Leading the way offensively for NM State was junior shortstop Ryan Aguayo, who posted a 3-for-6 day with two RBI and three runsscored.

Aggies Prepare for Vandals in WAC Quarterfinals

Aggie Equestrian Takes on Texas A&M

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The NM State equestrian team will travel to College Station, Texas this week for their final regular season road trip as the Aggies take on TexasA M, Friday, March 12 at 10:00 a.m. (MT) The event will be held at the Brazos County Expo Complex. The Aggies are coming off a win over Fresno State two weeks ago and will look to stay on the winning track against the No. 3 ranked TexasA M Aggies. NM State is currently 5-4 on the season, while TexasA M sits at 9-2 on the year. The last time NM State faced TexasA M was back in 2008, as the TexasA M Aggies defeated the NM State Aggies 15-5. The Western team was defeated 6-4, while the Hunter Seat team fell 9-1. The Aggies did have three MVP winners on the day. The 2010 NM State football home schedule includes non-conference opponents San Diego State on Sept. 11 and I-25 rival New Mexico on October9. Boyd, Rosen Earn All-WAC Honors

DENVER - Two New Mexico State women's basketball players earned 2009-10 All-Western Athletic Conference honors following a vote of the WAC's head coaches last weekend. Aggie senior guard Crystal Boyd received second team recognition while freshman guard Camila Rosen was named to the freshman team. After sitting out last season, Boyd has thrived in an Aggie uniform this year in her first full season of action on the hardwood. This year Boyd leads the team in field goals made (174); rebounds (7.6 rpg); blocks (49); steals (67) and points (15.4 ppg) pergame. In addition, Boyd set numerous career highs including 26 points against WAC Champion Fresno State; 15 boards versus I-10 rival UTEP; six blocks against Nevada; four steals against Idaho and went six-of-six from the free throw line versus Rio Grande Rival New Mexico. NEW ORLEANS, La. - The New Mexico State men's and women's cross country teams have earned All-Academic Team honors announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTRCCCA) Monday, March 8. The women's team tallied a 3.31 cumulative grade point average after the fall 2009 semester, while the men's team had a cumulative grade point average of 3.5. "Our student-athletes know that their job here at New Mexico State is to get their degrees," men's and women's cross country coach Paul Harkins said.
