Ahhhhhhh...August in the Mesilla Valley. It's an exciting time - green chile will soon be roasting, kids are heading back to school and...what's that I see on my calendar? AGGIE VOLLEYBALL!!

Kicking things off is the annual Alumni Game on August 21st at 7pm at the Pan Am Center. It's always fun to see the alums come back and show our current players a thing or two as well as catch up with what they've been doing with their lives.

The following Tuesday, August 24th is the Annual Pre Season Banquet at the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. The social hour begins at 6:30pm, followed by dinner at 7:30pm. The cost is $35 per person or a table for $400 that includes seating for 8 folks and 2 student athletes. Tucson in the spring - it's a beautiful thing!

This Saturday, March 27th, the Lady Aggies will be playing in the University of Arizona's Spring Tourny. This year, its us along with UTEP, UNM, U of A, NAU and ASU (as of this writing). Matches start at 9am in the McKale Center on the U of A campus. If it goes like last year, there will be a short lunch break and then play will start up again - probably around noon or 1pm. Don't trust me on those times - they usually stop when they stop.

The weather is going to be great for tailgating as well so, if you're in the area, look for the Lady Aggie Tailgaters to be set up around 7am on the north side of the McKale Center. Bring some donuts!!

You are cordially invited to join the Volleyball team on February 17th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in the Barbara Hubbard Room at the Pan Am. The cost is $10 per person. Call Tricia Wright at 646-7714 to reserve your ticket!

I hate it when we get to that point in the season where there are only 2 tickets left in my ticket envelope - and that's where I am right now. Two tickets left.

The Lady Aggies are playing their last 2 matches of the season at home this Thursday vs. Boise and this Saturday vs. Idaho, with Saturday being Senior Night. This year, we say goodbye to 4 seniors: Krista Altermatt, Erin Birmingham, Kelli Goodan and Angel Tirado. Each of these players has made quite an impact during their time here, but not just on the court. Since last we met, the Aggies have been visited by Nevada, Hawaii La Tech and UNM. Out of all of those matches, I have to say that the UNM match was the one that has left me scratching my head. First off, it was the Dig Pink game and thanks to everyone who donned the pink and came out. It was a great atmosphere in the Pan Am when the Lobos came to town. (I'm still trying to figure out what in the world that big plastic thing that they brought with them. Had someone been selling sharp pointy objects that night, he would have made a killing.)

Coach Nelson is in his 3rd year in Lobo-land and, as much as I hate to admit it, he's brought that program a very long way. They came to win and win they did...much to the disappointment of a pretty shocked crowd. When I started following volleyball, UNM and UTEP were the '3 and done' matches. Not anymore. I'm not going to go back and look at the stats but suffice to say, we left the Pan Am wondering just what had happened.

Last weekend, the Aggies winged their way to paradise for their re-match with Hawaii. This would be an interesting match to say the least. Had Louisiana Tech been able to get to the islands the previous Thursday, that game would have been Coach Shoji's 1,000th win. But, obviously, that didn't happen. I was unable to listen/watch the match, thanks to my wonderful internet provider but from the accounts I've gotten from friends who were at the match, we were really on it in the 2nd and 3rd sets. With Hawaii now ranked #3 in the nation, I was really hoping that we'd either pull out a miracle or make them work seriously hard to get their win..and we made them work but, unfortunately they had our number.  Continue Reading This Post >>

It's always an interesting event when VB fans get together for a game. We always have a lot of fun and excitement during the pre-game festivities and yesterday was no exception to our rule.

54 die hard Aggie fans gathered at the Fulton Center for dinner and the bus ride down to Memorial Gym. It was a fun and uneventful trip, until we got to El Paso when a driver in a Caddy decided to 'challenge' our bus on the turn from Executive Center onto Mesa.  Continue Reading This Post >>

The Aggies are at Notre Dame this weekend and will face Wisconsin on Saturday at 3pm our time, Notre Dame on Sunday at noon our time. Thankfully, we'll have Kyle D on the air on AM 570 for both matches. Tune in a few minutes early to hear the pre-game show.

It looks like Live Stats might be available through the Fighting Irish site but some folks have reported that live stats haven't been that great this year. I'm not seeing any video options right now but if I do find them, I'll let you know. If one of you find some video options, post a comment and let me know.

If you're a sports fan, there are days that you look forward to - Opening Day for baseball, First kick-off for football and so on. If you're an Aggie volleyball fan, then today is the day YOU'VE been looking forward to - The Alumni Game. It's our first look at the team that is going to carry us through a great season and another WAC Championship, and a chance to visit with some familiar faces as well. So - what alums will be there? That's a good question and one I won't answer - you'll just have to come to the game and find out.

Today kicks off the 2009 season where the team will see some big competition in the pre-season including the Italian National Team on Sept 6th, Notre Dame, Florida State and Illinois. They'll start off in Denton, TX next weekend at the North Texas Tournament then return to Las Cruces the weekend after that for their NMSU Tournament.
