The Daily Aggie :: 03/08/08 :: WAC Tournament Seedings Update

UPDATE: The official brackets are available on the WAC website.

The men's basketball seedings appear to be set. With two games left underway, Utah State is well on their way to defeating Idaho and Nevada is well on it's way to defeating Fresno State. The Aggies defeated Hawai'i on Senior Night 106-71. Boise State finished up their regular season Thursday night with their loss to Utah State. This is the first time in WAC history that there is a four-way tie for the championship.

Here's how the seedings shake out. Utah State is the 1-seed and will face the winner of the 8/9 matchup between San Jose State (8) and Louisiana Tech (9) on Tuesday night. Nevada is the 2-seed and will face the 7-seed Fresno State. NMSU is the 3-seed and will face the 6-seed Idaho. Boise State, the team who was first to 12-4, is the 4-seed and will face 5-seed Hawai'i. The quarterfinal games will take place on Thursday starting at noon.

On the women's side, just as is the case on the men's side, has locked up the 3-seed by virtue of Fresno State's victory over Nevada this evening. The Aggies will face the 6-seed Hawai'i. The Aggies will tip off with Hawai'i in just a few minutes. The women's quarterfinals get under way on Wednesday at noon. The Aggies will play the 6:00 p.m. game.

The women's seeding shake out as follows, we believe Fresno State will be the 1-seed by virtue of their sweep over NMSU (Boise Staet and NMSU split the season series) and will face the winner of the 8/9 matchup between 9-seed San Jose State and the 8-seed Idaho. Boise State earns the 2-seed and will face the 7-seed Utah State. Nevada and Louisiana Tech will face each other in the 4/5 matchup (we're not quite sure who's the 4-seed and who's the 5-seed).
