INDIANAPOLIS, IN - In a partnership with Texas A&M University's Laboratory for Diversity in Sport the NCAA has announced the recipients of the 2008 Diversity in Athletics Awards. The awards center on overall excellence in diversity, and also honor NCAA schools in seven specific categories. The New Mexico State Athletics department was recognized for their diversity strategy in Racial Diversity.
"We are proud that our Department's Diversity program has been recognized by our peers as worthy of this recognition," NMSU Athletics Director Dr. McKinley Boston said. "A commitment to Diversity continues to be a cornerstone of our Strategic Plan and we look forward to this year's program when we will meet with Hispanic leaders from our community to better understand how to acculturate our program efforts to better serve our customers."
The NCAA announced its partnership with Texas A&M Laboratory for Diversity in Sport and support of the Diversity in Athletics Awards in January. The partnership seeks to generate in-depth diversity and inclusion research and identify NCAA institutions that embrace diversity and inclusion with their business practices in athletics.
The Aggies will continue their ‘Journey to Excellence' this month as they invite members of the Hispano Chamber, Las Cruces Chamber, NMSU and Las Cruces Community to participate in a focus group to discuss how the NMSU Athletics Department, staff and coaches can better understand the Hispanic cultural values and move to better serve NMSU and the community.
