The Daily Aggie :: 09/04/07

The Rio Grande Rivalry kicks off tonight at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces as the Aggie volleyball team, 5-1, take on the surprising UNM Lobos, who are undefeated (7-0) under new head coach Jeff Nelson. Sam Aselstine from the Albuquerque Journal has a short write up on the meeting tonight. (Registration/Subscription required, use the Trial Premium Pass, it's free). Tonight's match is worth 1.5 points towards the Rio Grande Rivalry competition. If you have any doubt that this is a big match for both teams, think about this... UNM has not won in Las Cruces since 1989, that's 18 years of Aggie dominance.

The NMSU and UNM ROTC units will hand deliver the game ball for Saturday's football game all the way from Las Cruces to Albuquerque. It will take approximately 40 hours combined for both the ball to travel the 225 miles from Las Cruces to Albuquerque.
