No. 23 Aggies Down Alumni 4-0

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The No. 23 New Mexico State volleyball team defeated the NMSU Alumni 4-0 at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M., Saturday, August 23.

The Aggies, led by senior Lindsey Yon (San Antonio, Texas), won 25-14, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17 in front of a great NMSU crowd. Head coach Mike Jordan was pleased with the effort his team gave and was pleased with the turnout of the event.

"I think we’re working very hard at practice, but at this point we have to pay close attention to detail," Jordan said. "Our team has to become more confident and we still need to get ready to play."

Yon slammed down 12 kills on 25 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. She also had nine digs and one service ace. Freshman setter Jennah DeVries (Denver, Colo.) had match-high 31 assists to help give Yon the majority of her kills.

For the Alumni, Aggie assistant coach Stevi Adams (Houston, Texas) had a team high 10 kills and added three digs.

Senior libero Krystal Torres (Las Cruces, Mayfield HS) had a match-high 13 digs to lead the Aggies defensively, while Amber Simpson (Quincy, Ill.) had three total blocks on the night.

The nationally ranked Aggies will open the season, Friday, Aug. 29 against No. 11 Oregon in the Illinois Tournament.
