The Daily Aggie :: 09/17/08

It's the mid-week here in Aggie Country and the Battle of I-10 is just a few days away and there's plenty of material out there to read about. Jack Nixon talks about the rivalry in the latest edition of Jack's Corner. He reminds us of the ridiculous idea put forth by UTEP AD Bob Stull that the game should be held in El Paso more often than Las Cruces. If we remember correctly Stull also claimed that there was no competitive advantage for the game being played in El Paso more than Las Cruces and that it would be beneficial for NMSU because they would split the gate receipts. The football karma gods had their revenge on UTEP for that ridiculousness and UTEP finished the next three seasons 2-9, 2-10 and 2-11 and NMSU won the only meeting between the two schools during that three year span, a 49-14 woodshed job in Aggie Memorial. To make matters worse for UTEP the following season they lost to Div I-AA Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo 34-13.

This is your daily reminder to vote for Chase Holbrook in the Davey O'Brien Award fan voting. Because of your diligence in voting Chase has now moved into third place surpassing Purdue's Curtis Painter. Chase is just 80 or so votes behind Arkansas State's Corey Leonard for second place. Remember that you can vote once per day every day and the Top 3 vote recipients are automatically advanced to the semifinal round of voting.

One of our faithful readers e-mailed in to have us remind season ticket holders to take your cowbells with you to the game on Saturday. We think this is a great idea, however, we're not sure what the Sun Bowl policy is on artificial noisemakers so take them at your own risk.

Be sure to check out this week's interview with Aggie volleyball coach Mike Jordan. We talked with Coach about the Stanford tournament as well as the upcoming league matches and also Utah State's stunning upset of #15 Purdue (it was USU's first victory of the season). Also be sure to check out the latest entry from Brynja Rodgers' in her Aggie Volleyball Diary.
