We'd be lying to you if we said that we were over the sting of disappointment from both of yesterday's losses. The Aggie volleyball team lost 3-0 to 7th ranked Hawai'i to start off the afternoon. The Aggies actually had one of their better matches of the season against a top opponent and they outhit the Wahine in set one and set three. The Aggies also outblocked the Wahine 5-3. It was one of those matches where you look at the stat sheet and you look at the final score and you scratch your head and wonder how you lost.

Krista Altermatt continues to light up the opposition in WAC play as she hit .368 with eight kills on 19 attempts with just one attack errors. Amber Simpson also had an outstanding night as she had nine kills on 17 attacks with just two attack errors. The Aggies as a team had just two service errors but they were unable to record any aces. This week the Aggies will take their show on the road to San Jose, CA and Logan, UT to face the Spartans and Aggies.

The Aggie football team also suffered a tough loss. The Aggies scored on their very first offensive play of the game, an 84-yard strike from Chase Holbrook to A.J. Harris that electrified an already electric crowd. A defensive stop by the Aggies gave them the ball back and three plays later the Aggies found the endzone again on a 79-yard bomb from Chase to Marcus Anderson and after just four plays on offense the Aggies had built a 14-0 lead. It looked like the rout was on, unfortunately, it play out that way. The Lobos scored a touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter and the Aggies scored a field goal to send the game into halftime at 17-10.

The Aggies would not score another touchdown until the fourth quarter and unfortunately the Lobos would score three of them to pull out win after being down 14-0 very very quickly. A couple of key stats from the game include the fact that the Aggie defense was on the field for over 38 minutes. In fact, in the first quarter despite leading 14-0 the Aggie offense had the ball for just over four minutes. The second and third quarters were much of the same as the Aggies had the ball a little over five minutes in the second quarter and a little over four minutes in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the two teams have the ball for an even amount of time (7:35 for NMSU, 7:25 for UNM).

Despite the loss one thing is for certain, the days of the Aggies getting blown out in rivalry games is over. While the Aggies are just 2-4 in rivalry games in the past three seasons, they could very easily be 6-0. Their losses have been by six, six, ten and eleven points. One surprising stat from the game is that this was just the second home sellout for an NMSU/UNM football game in the 99 year history of the rivalry. That's shocking actually.

Chase Holbrook will finish up his career against UTEP and UNM with 2,596 yards, 23 touchdown passes and eight interceptions, an average of 432 yards, almost four touchdowns and less than two interceptions per rivalry game. And speaking of Chase, don't forget to go vote for him in the Davey O'Brien Award fan voting. Chase is still in third place but by less than 40 votes. He's also less than 20 votes from 2nd place.
