The Daily Aggie :: 11/25/08

Be sure to check out this week's interview with Aggie head football coach Hal Mumme. This week we spoke with Coach Mumme about the loss to Louisiana Tech, Chase, Chris and A.J.'s final home game performances and talked about each of the departing seniors. We all know about Chase, Chris, Derek and A.J. but perhaps the most impressive story is that of wideout Kenneth Buckley. We won't spoil the interview for you but let's just say that this young man deserved a ton of credit for what he's accomplished during his time here at New Mexico State. He is the embodiment of perseverance and we salute him.

And while we're on the subject of recognition, A.J. Harris became the first recipient of the Pervis Atkins Spirit Award. The following is the description of what the Pervis Atkins Spirit Award signifies:

The Pervis Atkins Spirit award was created to recognize the one New Mexico State University football player that has positively contributed the very most to and for his team.

It will not be necessary for this honoree to be an All American, an All WAC conference player or to have even been a starter.

The selectee's teammates will know him as being persistent in his call for each of them to play at their full potential while he enthusiastically participates at 110% of his own potential.

His value to the team is measured in his always high spirited presence on the practice field, on the sidelines and on the playing field.

This award also recognizes that, among the Aggies who take the field each week representing the very best of themselves, their team and all of the students of this great university--that a single person--through their dedication to others their leadership and enthusiasm can make a difference.

The person receiving this award has chosen to make that difference.

Congratulations A.J.
