One day left until Crimson and White meets Orange and Blue on the gridiron.
Before we get into today's links, the daily reminder to vote for Chase Holbrook in the Davey O'Brien fan voting. Fan voting closes on October 29th and the top three vote recipients are moved into the semifinal round. Since yesterday, Chase has fallen from 11th place in the voting to 13th place (64 votes) behind prolific quarterbacks such as Corey Leonard of Arkansas State (364 votes), Shaun Carney of Air Force (419 votes and currently in 3rd place) and Paul Smith of Tulsa (109 votes). Come on Aggie fans, you can't honestly tell me that you think Leonard, Carney AND Smith are all better quarterbacks than Chase. V-O-T-E!!!!
On to the links...
Thomas Ranson of the Nevada Appeal reports that the Aggie volleyball team's next opponent Nevada, who have beaten the Aggies each of the past two years in Reno, defeated Louisiana Tech last night in Reno. But it wasn't as easy as the Wolfpack thought it should have been.
There is considerable bad blood between the Aggies and Wolfpack, not only in men's basketball, but also in volleyball. If you recall, Nevada received a spot in the 2005 NCAA tournament, a spot many felt should have gone to NMSU. Nevada senior outside hitter Teal Ericson has been very vocal in the media of her dislike for NMSU. Before last year's match she dropped this little doozy in the Lohanton Valley News, "I want to beat New Mexico State more than anything else. It's a personal rivalry," Ericson, a Tahoe City native, said. "Neither one of us like each other much. We want them to come here and play poorly."
Add to that Nevada's current two match win streak over NMSU in Reno and you've got yourselves a very interesting match on Saturday afternoon.
CollegeFootballNews.com makes their Fearless Prediction for this week's game. Their prediction? A 34-31 win for the Aggies.
Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso Times, who is on pace to set the record for the most number of articles ever written about UTEP by one person in a week, writes that Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith, who expected to find himself not getting much playing time, played 90 snaps against Texas Tech last week and should expect much of the same this week against the Aggies.
Erica Molina Johnson, also of the El Paso Times reports that there are still around 7,500 tickets available for tomorrow night's game. Aggie fans, you better snap up those tickets or tomorrow's game is going to look more like a UTEP home game than an Aggie home game. Isn't that what we were trying to avoid?
Bret Bloomquist (I told you, this man is on fire this week), provides a few random facts about tomorrow night's game. Most interesting fact? NMSU only has one player from El Paso on the roster and UTEP only has one player from Las Cruces on their roster.
Since there are still 7500 tickets left for tomorrow's game, The Daily Aggie must remind you to show up early on Saturday wearing CRIMSON.
