ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State men's golf team completed the final day of the William H. Tucker Invitational with a 12th-place overall finish, Saturday, Sept. 15. Junior Travis Reid led the way for the Aggies, placing 18th on the Championship Course at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M.
"We started really strong this morning," head coach Scott Liberwith said. "But then got a bit shaky and made some mistakes, we just could not get it done like we wanted today."
After 54 holes of play, Reid (Clovis, N.M.) finished the tournament with a score of 5-over-par 221. On day two Reid shot 2-over-par 74 and rallied off six birdies throughout the entire tournament.
Freshman Tim Madigan (Rio Rancho, N.M.) finished his first collegiate tournament in 36th place, shooting 8-over-par 224 for the Aggies. Madigan shot 2-over-par 74 on the day, while recording two birdies.
Senior Matt Edwards finished the day with two birdies, shooting 4-over-par 76 and tied for 47th overall. Sophomore Josh Steward recorded four birdies while shooting a 3-over-par 75, which resulted in a 44th -place finish. Sophomore Mark Mueller finished 84th overall with a score of 5-over-par 77 and accumulated one birdie.
The squad will be back in action for a two-day tournament, Monday, Sept. 24 thru Tuesday, Sept. 25 as the Aggies travel to Manhattan, Kan., to compete at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate Tournament.
