The Daily Aggie :: 02/28/09

It's the final day of February which means that March Madness is right around the corner. The Aggie men's and women's basketball teams are not in action today but the men's team will play their final home game on Monday night. As we mentioned yesterday, the loss on Thursday night didn't help the Aggies but it also didn't hurt the Aggies as Nevada and Idaho both lost keeping the Aggies' hopes for a top three seed (and a chance to stay out of Utah State's side of the bracket) intact.

The Aggie baseball team put a good 'ol fashioned whupping on Chicago State yesterday afternoon. The Aggies scored 11 runs in the first inning and when we looked at the Live Stats in the bottom of the fourth inning the Aggies had already hit seven home runs. Two by Leo Aguirre, two by Bryan Marquez, two by Mark Sodders and one by Nate Shaver. Max Taylor and Chuck Howard also hit home runs for the Aggies. In all a school record 10 home runs were hit. Sodders, Shaver, Howard and Taylor were guys that Coach Ward was looking to have big weekends. They certainly started out that way on Friday. The Aggies return to action this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for a doubleheader with Chicago State.

The Aggie softball team split a pair of games yesterday in Tempe. They beat Northern Colorado 8-4 after jumping out to an early 6-0 lead. In the second game of the day the Aggies fell to South Alabama 4-2. The Aggies return to action tonight against defending national champion Arizona State. That game starts at 5:30 p.m.
