The Daily Aggie :: 03/29/09

The Aggie softball team lost in extra innings to #23 Fresno State on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies were behind 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh and with one out, the Aggies' Hoku Nohara walked, then Stacy Lien singled to right field and then Angie Ortega hit a bomb over right center to tie the game at three. Up to that point the Aggies had managed just one hit against Fresno State's Morgan Melloh. The Aggies had a tough day at the plate as nearly every hit they got was at a defender. The Bulldogs would score four runs in the top of the eighth inning to go ahead 7-3 and held on for the victory by that final score.

Despite losing the final two games of the series, the Aggies can hang their hat on the fact that they were able to score runs against Morgan Melloh, a knowledge that could be very useful come tournament time when all the WAC teams head to Fresno for the conference tourney.

The Aggie baseball team improved to 25-3 on the season as they completed a 5-0 road trip by defeating UT-Pan American 7-3. The Aggies will open up league play at home this coming weekend against Sacramento State. The Aggies swept the Hornets in Sacramento last season and that series sweep was a big factor in the Aggies making the WAC tournament last season. The Aggies currently hold the best record in the league heading into conference play.

The Aggie football team held a football clinic for the Boys and Girls Club of Las Cruces. Be sure to check out our photos from yesterday's event. The kids had a fantastic time interacting with the players and coaches and the players and coaches had a fantastic time coaching the kids through various football drills.

Finally, be sure to check out our photos from yesterday's women's tennis match against Tulane. The Aggies fell 4-3 to the Green Wave. Tulane's program was suspended after Hurricane Katrina and this is their first season back in competition since prior to the hurricane.
