2009 Football Schedule

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach DeWayne Walker announced the Aggies' 2009 schedule Tuesday, March 31. In 2009, the Aggies face six bowl teams from the 2008 season, as well as the two rivalry games and a Big Ten opponent. All home games in 2009 will be played on Saturday and game times are set for 6:00 p.m. (All times subject to change)

"We are extremely excited to open the season at home and with a conference game,” head coach DeWayne Walker said. "To have a chance to start the season with a conference win is a great opportunity. I'm also excited that we have a bye week so late in the season. To start the season with three straight home games is a great advantage for our players and I hope the fans, students, faculty and the community will come out and support us this coming season.”

NM State plays six home games and seven away games in 2009, including three straight homes game to start the season for the first time since 1986. In addition, the Aggies first game of the season will be against a conference opponent, something that NM State has not done since 1985. The Aggies' five non-conference games feature Texas A&M Prairie View, the Mountain West's San Diego State, Big Ten standout Ohio State and two of NM State's biggest rivals in the UTEP Miners and the New Mexico Lobos.

The Aggies will open the season on September 5th against Idaho. NM State last beat Idaho in Las Cruces during the 2006 season. The Aggies then host Texas A&M Prairie View in Aggie Memorial Stadium on September 12th. This is first meeting between the two schools. The Aggies then plays host to the UTEP Miners, September 19, in Las Cruces. The Aggies have a two-game winning streak on the line against the Miners, having won the 2008 meeting in El Paso. It was the first win for the Aggies in El Paso in 14 years.

The Aggies then travel to Albuquerque, N.M. for the 100th meeting between the NM State and the Lobos. UNM holds a 67-28-5 record over the Aggies and have won the last six meetings between the two schools. The Aggies then make their way to San Diego, Calif., for a match up with the Aztecs of San Diego State on October 3. The Aggies and Aztecs have met seven times with SDSU holding a 6-1 record over NM State. The last meeting between the two schools was back in the 1975 season when the Aztecs won 48-3.

After two straight road games, the Aggies will be back home to play Utah State on October 10th, followed by a road trip to Ruston, La., to face Louisiana Tech on October 17th. NM State will then return home for a meeting with the Bulldogs of Fresno State on October 24th.

NM State's final non-conference game of the season comes October 31, as the Aggies take their show on the road to Ohio State. This is the first meeting between the two schools and just the second Big Ten opponent that New Mexico State has ever faced.

The Aggies will have a bye week on November 7th, before heading to the islands to face Hawai'i on November 14th in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Then on November 21st the Aggies will play their final home game of the 2009 season against Nevada.

NM State will wrap up their 2009 campaign with road trips to San Jose State on November 28th and Boise State on December 5th. This will be just the seventh time in school history that the Aggies end the regular season in the month of December.
