LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State men’s basketball head coach Marvin Menzies has signed Da’shawn Gomez to a National Letter of Intent, Thursday, May 14. Gomez is a 6-1 guard from Inglewood, Calif.

"Getting a kid like Da'shawn Gomez, out of Southern California, is a big feather in our cap," Menzies said. "That is an area we have concentrated recruiting efforts, and he is highly respected in that area. We look for Da’shawn to come in and compete for minutes at the point guard and two guard positions."

As a senior, Gomez was named a first team All-California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division IV-AA honoree after leading Inglewood High School to a 24-7 record and the CIF-SS Division IV-AA title game. He posted a team-best 22 points in the Sentinels’ loss to Ocean View, 76-47.

A four-year starter, Gomez averaged 18 points, 10 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds and he was named the conference’s most valuable player in his final season. He ranks second on Inglewood’s all-time assist list. Additionally, Gomez was a first team All-Daily Breeze selection as a senior and a three-year team captain. As a junior, he was named the conference’s most outstanding player.

Gomez joins B.J. West, a power forward/center from Cheneyville, La., to the Aggies' 2009 class.
