It was an up and down day for Aggie sports yesterday with men's tennis winning, volleyball losing, football winning and soccer losing.

The men's tennis team kicked off the day with a pair of tournament titles in the Aggie Fall Invitational. Matej Stakne and Jim Brouleau shared the singles title while Aggie teammates Gustave Diep and Eduardo Salas and Jim Brouleau and junior Arthur Surreaux shared the doubles titles.



The Aggie volleyball team lost 3-0 to Wisconsin yesterday afternoon. The Aggies lost by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23. Senior middle hitter Erin Birmingham led the Aggies with a .500 hitting percentage recording seven kills on 12 swings with just one attack error. Whitney Woods also had seven kills for the Aggies on 19 swings with three attack errors (.211%). Krista Altermatt led all Aggies with eight kills but recorded seven hitting errors in her 27 swings to finish with a .037 hitting percentage.

The Aggies wrap up the tournament today with a match against host Notre Dame at 12:00 p.m. MST. Fans can hear the match on KSNM AM 570 in Las Cruces, via streaming audio on Aggie Access (subscription required), via streaming audio via the Notre Dame athletic website (free, click on the Live Events tab) and of course via Live Stats.



The Aggie football team earned their first victory on Saturday defeating Prairie View A&M. The Aggies held a 21-3 lead in the 4th quarter and held on for a 21-18 victory after the Panthers scored 15 unanswered points late in the 4th quarter.

The Aggie rushing attack gained 241 yards on the ground and was led by Seth Smith who rushed for 150 yards, the most in a game since 2003. Aggie quarterback Jeff Fleming had a rough day passing but made up for it with two rushing touchdowns.

The Aggies now turn their attention to UTEP who makes the short trip north to Las Cruces to face the Aggies on Saturday.



The Aggie women's soccer team lost 3-1 to Northern Arizona on Saturday night. The loss was the Aggies' first game not decided by one goal. Aggie freshman midfielder Kelly Heiman scored her first career goal off an assist from Baili Foutz in the loss.

The Aggies end their three week, four game road trip with a 2-2 and a 2-4-0 record overall. The Agges return home this weekend to take on UT-Permian Basin on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
