The Aggies defeated a game UTEP squad 3-1 in El Paso at Memorial Gym winning set one 25-18, falling in set two 25-23, winning set three 25-23 and clinching the match with a decisive 25-19 victory.
The Aggies trailed 15-11 in the 4th set but went on a 12-1 run to take a commanding 23-16 lead. The Aggies finished off the Miners after a brief rally by UTEP.
Sophomore middle hitter Kelsey Brennan had another outstanding match against UTEP finishing with 10 kills on 15 swings with just one attack error for a .600 hitting percentage. Fellow middle hitter Erin Birmingham also had a strong match for the Aggies finishing with seven kills on 15 swings with just one attack error for a .375 hitting percentage.
Junior right side attacker Whitney Woods had one of her best matches of the season recording 13 kills on 22 swings with just three hitting errors. Junior college transfer Kayleigh Giddens had her best match as an Aggie finishing with 14 kills on 36 swings with five hitting errors for a .250 hitting percentage and added 14 digs for her first double-double as an Aggie.
Sophomore libero Kelsi Phillips was instrumental in the fourth set victory as the Aggies went on an 8-0 run while she was on serve. Phillips finished with a match high 17 digs.
The Aggies improve to 5-4 on the season and will open WAC play on Thursday night against Utah State.
