Aggie Soccer Kicks Off WAC Play With 1-0 Overtime Victory

Lauren CopeThe Aggie women's soccer team earned their first conference victory in style on Friday night with a 1-0 victory in overtime over Boise State. The Aggies' freshman forward Lauren Cope scored her first career goal in the 91st minute of the match off a corner kick from Baili Foutz. Vanessa Novella picked up an assist on the play, for Novella it was her second assist of the season. With the goal Cope became the ninth different Aggie to score this season.

Aggie goal keeper Katie Graul earned her first solo shutout of the season as she made six saves in the match including several big saves in the second half. The Broncos outshot the Aggies 10-8 but the Aggies had the only two shots in the extra period. The Aggies' win snaps the Broncos' seven match unbeaten streak.

The victory also pushes the Aggies record over .500 for the first time this season at 6-5-0 and 1-0-0 in league play. The Aggies host Idaho on Sunday afternoon in Aggie Memorial Stadium. The Vandals are also 1-0-0 in league play after handing Louisiana Tech their first loss of the season in a 1-0 decision in double overtime.
