Lauren Cope Earns WAC Soccer Offensive Player Of The Week Honors

The WAC office announced their Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 28 through Oct. 4 and Aggie freshman midfielder Lauren Cope earned the WAC Offensive Player of the Week. Cope scored two goals on the weekend in the Aggies' two home victories over the weekend. Cope scored her first career goal on Friday night against Boise State in the 91st minute of the match. The golden goal gave the Aggies a 1-0 victory and the first WAC win in the program's inaugural season. "She was in the right place at the right time on a ball that got knocked down in front of the goal off of a corner. It was kind of a melee in front and she just put herself in a good position and was able to get her foot on it and knock it in the back of the net," said Coach Needham about Cope's first career goal.

She followed that up with her second goal in the Aggies' stunning come from behind victory over Idaho on Sunday afternoon. Trailing 2-1, Cope netted the match-tying goal from three yards out off an assist from fellow freshman Crystal Burns.

Cope's Player of the Week is her first and the first for the Aggie program.

Aggie senior goal keeper Katie Graul was also nominated for WAC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Aggies' two victories. Graul tallied 15 saves in the Aggies' two games and allowed just two goals on 17 shots on goal.
