Katie GraulLAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State senior goalkeeper Katie Graul has been named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week, Monday, Oct. 12, the conference office announced. She was honored for her play for the week of Oct. 5-11.

Graul posted two shutouts in her first two career WAC road matches. Against Fresno State, Oct. 9, she collected six saves in NM State’s 2-0 victory. Graul then held San Jose State scoreless through 110 minutes and tallied six saves to record the 0-0 double-overtime tie.

“It’s nice to be recognized by the conference,” head coach Michael Needham said. “Katie is an integral part of our success, and she is a big-time shot stopper.

“In both games, her play was massive,” he said. “The results were a direct effect of her outstanding goalkeeping, and our back four was tremendous this weekend.”

The Aggies have three shutouts in the last four matches and have only allowed two goals in WAC play. Along with Graul, freshmen Elise Nordin, Courtney Irwin, Vanessa Thomas and junior Baili Foutz haven’t given up a goal in over 260 minutes.
