Kayleigh GiddensBehind a match high 17 kills from Kayleigh Giddens the Aggie volleyball team swept visiting Fresno State 3-0 winning 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 on Thursday night in the Aggies' first nationally televised match in program history.

Giddens hit an impressive .389 on the evening and had an even more impressive 10 kills and no hitting errors in the first set. Giddens also served up two aces and had five digs to round out the evening. Junior opposite hitter Whitney Woods finished with 10 kills on 19 swings with just three hitting errors and hit .368 on the night.

Sophomore setter Jennah DeVries finished with 39 assists, eight digs and added three kills and earned high marks all night from analyst and NCAA champion Holly McPeak.

The only damper on the evening came in the second set when senior outside hitter Krista Altermatt landed on teammate Kelsi Phillips' foot and left the match. Filling in for Altermatt was freshman outside hitter Stephanie Ziegler who finished with seven kills on 16 swings with six attack errors. Ziegler has now filled in for both outside hitters as she previously replaced Kayleigh Giddens when Giddens suffered her ankle injury early in the season.

Fresno State was led by middle hitter Brianna Clarke who finished with nine kills on 20 swings and hit .350 on the night. Kelly Leonardo hit .455 with five kills on 11 swings with no hitting errors.

The Aggies finished with 10 blocks on the night as middle hitter Kelsey Brennan led the Aggies with a solo block and five block assists. Fellow middle hitter Erin Birmingham finished with three digs, one ace, a solo block and two block assists and delivered the match point kill.

With the victory the Aggies improve to 12-7 on the season and 7-2 in WAC play and will host San Jose State on Saturday afternoon.
