Aggie Men's Hoops Crushed 100-68 In Season Opener At St. Mary's

The Aggies fell behind 13-2 early in their season opener and were never able to recover as the St. Mary's Gaels cruised past the Aggies. After facing an early 11 point deficit, the Aggies cut the lead to five points at 13-8 with 11:39 left to play in the first half but that was as close as the Aggies would get the rest of the game. St. Mary's would outscore the Aggies 28-18 over the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 41-26 advantage into halftime.

St. Mary's opened the second half on a 17-2 run through the first media timeout to take a commanding 58-28 lead. The Aggies would never threaten in the second half as the closest they would get in the second half was 25 points at 60-35 with the final margin of 32 points the largest margin of defeat for the Aggies under head coach Marvin Menzies.

The Aggies were paced by sophomore center Hamidu Rahman who finished with a career high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds. Jahmar Young finished with 16 points and five rebounds but also committed five turnovers. The Aggies' lone senior Jonathan Gibson finished with 14 points and hit two of six three point attempts.

The Gaels had five players finish in double figures in scoring led by Matthew Dellavedova and Wayne Hunter with 19 points apiece. Ben Allen finished with 17 points while Mickey McConnell and Omar Samhan each finished with 12 points. Samhan was the only player on either side to foul out.

The Aggies open their home schedule on Tuesday against in-state rival New Mexico at 7:00 p.m. in the Pan American Center.
