The Daily Aggie :: 11/23/09

Congratulations to the five Aggies who were named to the All-WAC Volleyball teams last night at the annual postseason awards banquet. The Aggies had four players, Whitney Woods, Jennah DeVries, Kelsey Brennan and Kayleigh Giddens, named to the First Team while Erin Birmingham was named to the Second Team. Be sure to check out our photos from last night's banquet.

The actual tournament gets under way tonight as Idaho will take on Boise State at 6:00 p.m. MT and Nevada will take on Fresno State following that match. The Aggies will play the winner of the Idaho/Boise State match tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. MT.

Madison SpenceThe Aggie women's basketball team hosts North Dakota this evening at the Pan Am. The Aggies are coming off a solid victory over Long Beach State this past Friday night. The Fighting Sioux are 0-3 on the season and are lead by senior guard Kayla Bagaason who is averaging 15.3 points per game. Junior guard Mallory Youngblut is averaging 9.0 points per game while senior forward Whitney Ledger is averaging 8.3 points per game. Mallory Youngblut leads the Sioux in rebounding averaging 8.3 boards per game.

The Aggies are led by their trio of guards in Madison Spence, Danisha Corbett and Crystal Boyd. Boyd scored a season high 17 points on Friday night. Tabytha Wampler and Kelsie Rozendaal have led the Aggies in the post. Rozendaal is averaging nearly 20 minutes per game and has picked up the minutes that injured junior Erica Sanchez would have filled.

The Aggies hold and advantage at the free throw line as they have shot 66 free throws and are converting better than 70 percent of their attempts. North Dakota is hitting just 60 percent of their free throws.

The Aggies are averaging nearly 42 rebounds per game while North Dakota State is averaging just under 34 rebounds per game.

The key for the Aggies tonight is to continue to improve defensively. The Aggies also look to have another strong start to a second half as they did on Friday night when they opened on runs on 7-0 and 18-2 in the victory over Long Beach State.

Tonight's game starts at 7:00 p.m. MT and can be heard on KSNM AM 570. Streaming video and streaming audio will be available for tonight's game via Aggie Access (subscription required) and Live Stats for tonight's game will also be available.
