WACO, TX - Junior Stefan McKinney lost a third set tiebreaker in the semifinals at the H.E.B Baylor Invitational in the B singles draw to Texas' Hubert Chodkiewicz Sunday morning at the Baylor Tennis Center.

Despite the loss, McKinney led the Aggies in the elite fall tournament where he went 3-1 in his singles action and 4-1 in doubles play with sophomore Alejandro de Mucha. McKinney and de Mucha fell in the finals of the B doubles draw, 8-3, to Wisconsin's Luke Rassow-Kantor and Jeremy Sonkin.

In the B singles draw semifinal match, McKinney came back from losing the first set, 6-3, to win the second, 6-4. The third set went into a tiebreaker where Chodkiewicz was able to come out on top for the victory, ending McKinney's outstanding weekend run.

de Mucha also played very well for NMSU over the weekend. He finished the tournament going 3-2 in singles play in addition to his great doubles play with McKinney. de Mucha ended up falling in the semifinals of the B consolation bracket to Charl Wolmarans of San Diego; a 6-0, 6-4 defeat.

Assistant coach Carlos Vargas thought his team performed well over the weekend against some very tough competition.

"Overall it was a good tournament for us," Vargas said. "We had some good wins and got some good experience. McKinney and de Mucha had excellent showings, which was great for both of them."

Up next for the Aggies is the All-American Pre-Qualifying tournament in Tulsa, Okla. NMSU's top players begin competition on Saturday, Sept. 29.
