The Daily Aggie :: 11/27/09

The Aggie men's basketball team picked up win number two last night against North Carolina A&T by a final score of 84-68. The Aggies held North Carolina A&t;T to under 40 percent shooting for the night, the first team they've done that to this season. It was also the first opponent they've held under 70 points. Scoring wise it was once again just a three man show as Jonathan Gibson posted a career-high 31 points, eclipsing the career-high 30 he scored this past Saturday against Oklahoma Panhandle State. Jahmar Young added 23 point and Hamidu Rahman set a career high for rebounds with 15 to go along with his 12 points giving him a double-double.

The Aggies were outstanding from the free throw line hitting 28 of 32 attempts (87.5 percent). The Aggies turned the ball over 16 times but only forced nine A&T turnovers.

The Aggies still need one or two more players to step up from a scoring standpoint but it is great to see Jonathan Gibson lighting up the scoreboard.

The Aggies have a few days off before they host UTEP on Tuesday, December 1st.

The Aggie women's basketball team looks to rebound today from their disappointing loss to North Dakota on Monday. The Aggies struggled mightily offensively and yet only lost the game by seven points, 57-50. The Aggies will take on Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 7:00 p.m. at the Pan Am as part of the Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Tournament. SIU-E is 1-4 on the season with their lone victory coming over Morehead State, 67-74.

The Cougars are led by sophomore guard Melia Duncan who is averaging 11.4 points per game. Freshman forward Danielle Bennett is second on the team averaging 10.4 points per game. Senior guard Ashley Bey is averaging eight points per game for the Cougars. SIU-E is hitting just 30.6 percent of their shots from the field. The Cougars' opponents are hitting 42.8 percent of their shots from the field. The Cougars are also being outrebounded by an average of 11 rebounds per game. The Aggies will need to take advantage of all of those factors and if they do, this could be a blowout victory for the Aggies at home.
