EL PASO, TX - New Mexico State women's tennis senior Anne Fagegaltier defeated Arizona's Jane Huh in the top singles flight at the Miner Fall Invitational Sunday, Sept. 23 to take third place.

Fagegaltier lost the first set 6-0, but came back in the second set to win, 6-2. Then Huh and Fagegaltier battled it out in the third set tiebreaker, where the Aggies talented senior came pulled away to win the match 10-2.

Head coach Don Ball was pleased to see his team improve in its final day of its first tournament of the fall.

"It was a good event for us and we got better as we went along," Ball said. "We played substantially better today and I think we got over our first tournament getters."

Junior Stephanie Eusebe started out slow in her championship match against UTEP's Weronika Bloczynska in the second flight. She lost the first set 6-0, but came back and played strong in the second. However, Bloczynska proved to be better on the day and she came out on top in the second set, 7-5, to win the match.

"Stephanie [Eusebe] started out slow in her match today and she had a chance to come back and win the second set. Anne [Fagegaltier] had an excellent tournament, probably the best tournament out of everyone and Stephanie impressed us with her play this weekend."

Freshman Alex Rios played a strong match for the Aggies in flight three. She ended up falling to Memphis' Elkin Zafir, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, but she impressed coach Ball as she played well the entire match.

"Alex Rios didn't win her match this afternoon, but she played very well and was quite impressive."

In doubles action, sophomore Aleksa Costa and freshman Bianca Discordia fell in the flight two doubles championship match to Monterrey Tech's Adrianna Canepa and Beatriz Bravo, 8-3. Senior Zeljka Juricek and junior Paulina Zuniga were also in a championship doubles match Sunday in flight one, falling 8-1 to Ana Paula de la Pena and Ana Trevino.

"We played pretty well in doubles all weekend. The teams we lost to from Monterrey Tech were pretty good and Monterrey Tech is one of the best teams in all of Mexico."

The Aggies are off from competition next weekend before traveling to Houston, Texas to compete in the Houston Invitational, Oct. 5-7.
