The Daily Aggie :: 12/27/09

Teddy Feinberg of the Las Cruces Sun-News has revealed the names of the coaches who interviewed for the vacant offensive coordinator position. Former Minnesota offensive coordinator Mike Dunbar, Feather River College head coach Steve Mooshagian, Nebraska Kearney offensive coordinator Russ Martin, UNLV offensive coordinator Rob Phenicie and Idaho quarterbacks coach Jonathan Smith were the names revealed. According to the article Coach Walker hopes to make his selection within the week.

Teddy Feinberg also takes a look at some of the prominent sports figures in the Las Cruces area in 2009 and among those making the list is College Football Hall of Fame Inductee Pervis Atkins. Atkins was inducted into the Hall of Fame earlier this month (check out the photos from the event). Atkins will also be inducted into the Albuquerque/New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame in March (we will have ticket information soon for Aggie fans wishing to attend the induction ceremony). Also, Atkins will be in attendance at the upcoming Fiesta Bowl game in Glendale, Ariz. as the Fiesta Bowl honors all of this year's inductees.

Also included on the list were Aggie head coaches Michael Needham (soccer) and Rick Pratt (swimming and diving) and NM State Athletic Director McKinley Boston. Noticeably absent from the list is Aggie baseball Coach Rocky Ward who guided the team to their best record in program history and to the WAC Championship series against Fresno State (after being picked middle of the pack in the preseason) and Aggie cross country coaches Paul Harkins and Meaghan Gregory who guided the women's cross country team to the program's first cross country conference championship.
