The New Mexico State men's basketball team trailed by as many as 17 in the second half before falling to visiting Nevada 76-66 on Monday night. The Aggies never led in the game as Nevada scored the first two points of the game on a jumper from Dario Hunt. The Aggies tied the game at two on a jumper by Hernst Laroche 2:18 into the game but would trail the rest of the way. The Aggies fell behind by 11 with 4:37 left in the first half but cut the Wolf Pack lead to just four with 2:28 left in the half before Nevada pushed the lead back to nine with under three seconds left in the half. After a Nevada foul with two seconds left in the half, Hernst Laroche stepped to the line and sunk two free throws to seven at 38-31. A quick steal on the ensuing inbounds play caused Nevada to foul Hernst Laroche and put him back on the free throw line to shoot 1-and-1 with less than two seconds left but Laroche missed the front end and the Aggies went into the half trailing by seven after having a shot at cutting the lead to five.

In the second half the Wolf Pack quickly built their lead to 10 after a three pointer by Luke Babbitt. The Aggies would cut the lead down to four points at 45-41 with 12:36 remaining to play. However, the Aggies would get no closer and the Wolf Pack would go on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to go up by 11. The Aggies would trail by as many as 17 with 3:42 left to play and even an off-the-backboard alley-oop from Jahmar Young to Wendell McKines with 3:09 to cut the lead to 13 couldn't produce one final Aggie run.

The Aggies had five players score in double-figures but their bench went scoreless in the defeat. Wendell McKines paced the Aggies with 16 points to go along with six rebounds. Hamidu Rahman finished with 13 points and seven rebounds but missed several short shots and finished just 6-of-14 from the floor. Jahmar Young scored 14 points, Jonathan Gibson scored 13 points and Hernst Laroche scored 11.

Nevada was led by Luke Babbitt who finished with game high honors scoring 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, his 10th double-double in 15 games. Babbitt was 10-of-14 from the field, 3-of-3 from behind the three point arc and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. Brandon Fields finished with 13 points, Dario Hunt finished with 12, Armon Johnson scored 10 and Joey Shaw scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds.

The Aggies were outrebounded 38-29 and Nevada finished the game shooting 52.5 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent (16-of-28) in the second half. The Aggies shot 42.9 percent for the game.

The loss drops the Aggies to 1-1 in WAC play and 8-7 overall. Nevada improves to 1-1 in WAC play and 9-6 overall.
