The Aggie women's basketball team picked up a crucial league victory on the road yesterday afternoon as they defeated Utah State on a pair of last second free throws by Jasmine Lowe to earn the 56-55 win. The Aggies trailed by 10 points in the first half but led by three at halftime as they finished the final seven minutes of the game on an 18-5 run. The Aggies led nearly the entire second half and led by nine points with 8:16 left to play. Utah State came all the way back and took a 55-54 lead on a three pointer by Utah State's Banna Diop but Jasmine Lowe drove the lane and was fouled and knocked down both free throws. USU's Alice Coddington missed a layup and Crystal Boyd grabbed the rebound and the Aggies escaped Logan with a win.

The drama at the end of the game was somewhat self-inflicted as the normally good free throw shooting Aggies missed three different front-ends of one-and-ones in the final 43 seconds. Madison Spence with 43 seconds, Jasmine Lowe with 23 seconds and Tabytha Wampler with 21 seconds all missed opportunities to seal the game. However, the Aggies came through at the line when they needed to. Crystal Boyd had a fantastic game for the Aggies. She finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. The win keeps the Aggies in the middle of the league race. The Aggies are 3-3 and face second place Nevada (4-1) next Saturday in Reno. Fresno State continues to lead the league after dropping Louisiana Tech yesterday. The Lady Techsters sit in third place at 3-2. Boise State and Idaho are right behind the Aggies at 2-3. Utah State is 2-4, Hawai'i is 2-5 and San Jose State is 1-4.

The Aggie men's basketball team dropped a tough game at San Jose State. The Spartans are a better team than people think and this loss, is not all that surprising if you follow the WAC closely.

San Jose State is literally two free throws away from being tied for second place. They lost a heartbreaker at Hawai'i when the Warriors knocked down two free throws with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to steal a victory. That being said, the Aggies held a 17 point lead in the first half and a 15 point lead in the second half and this is a game that got away from the Aggies. Jahmar Young had a career-high 34 points last night. The Aggies also shot an Aggie single-game record 38 three pointers and Jonathan Gibson and Jahmar Young each shot 14 three pointers, one shy of the school record of 15.

The Aggies are now tied with Utah State at 5-2 and sit in second place but they visit Louisiana Tech next Saturday with a chance to get back into first place. The Aggies got a little help last night from Fresno State (4-3) who took down Nevada (4-3) sans Paul George. George, the Bulldogs' leading scorer, is expected to be out 2-3 weeks after injuring his ankle against Utah State on Thursday night.

The league race at the top is still wide open as there are six teams within two games of each other and any team has proven they can beat any other team on any given night (except for Idaho and Boise State who have one win and 12 losses between the two of them).

Congratulations to Utah State head coach Stew Morrill who picked up career win number 500. Morrill is one of the most underrated coaches in the country and surprisingly his coaching tree has more branches than does Rick Pitino's.
