Aggie Alumni Game And Free Youth Clinic Scheduled For Saturday

LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico State baseball team hosts the Annual Alumni Game at Presley Askew Field, Saturday, Feb. 13 at 2:00 p.m. (MT), marking the start of the 2010 season. Admission is free to everyone.

After a successful 44-win season in 2009, the NM State baseball team is anxious to get started with the new season. Head coach Rocky Ward anticipates a weekend full of tradition and good baseball.

"I always look forward to seeing so many of my former players come back to campus," Ward said. "It is hard to stay in touch once a players leaves your school, because they are so focused on starting there new jobs and new families. The game allows me to reconnect with young men who are very important to me."

The Alumni roster features former Aggies such as Mark Aranda, who was named an All-American after the 2005 season. Justin Lucero and Frankie Duran, both of whom signed with the new local minor league team, the Las Cruces Vaqueros, will also be playing for the Alumni team.

Along with the Alumni Game festivities on Saturday, the Aggie Baseball team will be hosting a free youth clinic. The youth clinic is for all kids 12 and under and is scheduled to run from 9:00-11:00 a.m. (MT) at Presley Askew Field on the campus of NM State. The team will teach kids the fundamentals of the game and show the kids how much fun the game can be. Each child will also get a poster from the 2009 national leaders in RBI and runs scored.
