LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach DeWayne Walker announced Wednesday, Feb. 17, that Daniel English has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football for the Aggies. English (New Westminster, BC) is a wide receiver from New Westminster Secondary.

"We were looking for more size at the wide receiver position and with (Daniel) English and (Adam) Shapiro, I felt like we did that," Walker said. "Both players are over 6-feet tall with great speed and good hands. Obviously, we felt like we have addressed those needs and we feel that we have started to develop our wide receiver corps into a solid group."

In 2009, English played in 12 games at wide receiver and running back. He caught 26 passes for 462 yards and six touchdowns, while averaging 17.7 yards a reception. At running back, English rushed for 222 yards on 14 carries, averaging 15.8 yards a carry, while recording two touchdowns on the season. English also returned kicks and punts for the Hyacks with 12 kickoff returns for 239 yards, averaging 19.9 yards a return. As a punt returner, English tallied 185 yards on 10 returns and a touchdown. He was named a 2009 AAA Pepsi Provincial All-Star. As a junior, English caught 21 passes for 460 yards and seven touchdowns, while rushing for one touchdown.

English is the 18th student-athlete to sign with New Mexico State in 2010.
