The Daily Aggie :: 10/05/07

It's looking more and more like Chase Holbrook may not play this Sunday against Boise State. The Las Cruces Sun-News, the Idaho Statesman and Idaho Press Tribune have all reported that Holbrook's status as doubtful for Sunday. If he doesn't play, this will mark the first time in his collegiate career at NMSU that Chase has not started a game. Despite taking several big hits last season, Chase always came back the next game. I would remind everyone that Chase's status was up in the air before the season finale last year against Louisiana Tech. In fact, he was cleared right before the game started and then went out and torched the Bulldogs for 514 yards and three touchdowns. So unless he doesn't travel with the team, I wouldn't count him out. He's tough.

Yesterday NMSU announced that the Utah State vs. NMSU showdown in Las Cruces on Saturday, January 26th will be televised on ESPN2. The tip time was moved from 7:00 in the evening to 4:00 in the afternoon. Most of the preseason magazines have the southern Aggies and the nothern Aggies finishing 1-2 in the conference this season. Also, I'm betting that last year's WAC Tournament championship thriller between the two school factored in the decision to televise the game. Our Aggies have taken four out of five meetings with Utah State since joining the WAC and the game will feature arguably the two best players in the WAC, Justin Hawkins and Jaycee Carroll (who we think is probably the best pure shooter in the country). The decision to televise the game means that the Ags will be on national television five times this season, twice on ESPN2 (Duke and now USU), once on another ESPN network (Bracketbuster) and twice on Versus (Legends Classic).

Before we get into the links today, don't forget to vote for Chase Holbrook in the Davey O'Brien Award fan voting. Chase is currently 264 votes behind Tulsa's Paul Smith.
