The Aggie baseball team extended the nation's longest winning streak to 12 games and in the process tied the school record for consecutive wins after they rallied from a 7-1 deficit to win 11-7. The Aggies allowed all seven runs in the first three innings and then the Aggies' bullpen shut out Nevada over the final six innings. Leo Aguirre continues to wield a hot bat as he finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and came around to score twice. Nate Shaver, a player who head coach Rocky Ward says has played outstandingly only to be overshadowed by a couple hotter bats, also continued his strong play going 3-for-4 including a triple, two RBIs, a walk and scored twice.
Freshman pitcher Ryan Beck was outstanding in relief. He allowed his two inherited baserunners to score but then proceeded to pitch four scoreless innings. He struck out two and walked two and allowed just two hits.
The Aggies and Wolf Pack will play a doubleheader today starting at 3:05 p.m. MT and both games can be heard on KSNM AM 570 and streaming audio will be available for both games as the Aggies try to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 13 and 14 games.

The Aggie softball team dropped a tough conference game on Friday afternoon to Louisiana . The Aggies' starting pitcher Torrey Schroeder only gave up two runs, however, that's all La. Tech needed. Schroeder had a shaky start as she walked the first four batters she faced which of course resulted in a run for the Lady Techsters. The Bulldogs would add one more run, also a direct result of a walk by Schroeder who finished the game allowing seven walks in 4.2 innings.
Freshman Lauren Morizi hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to draw the Aggies to within one run and the Aggies had the tying run at third base with two outs but were unable to score. The Aggies had difficulty getting runners into scoring position with less than two outs and as a result, their best scoring chances throughout the game came with two outs.
On the bright side for the Aggies their freshmen continue to play well in pressure situations. Lauren Morizi's home run in the top of the seventh to bring the Aggies to within one run is an example of such strong play by the newcomers. Morizi finished with two of the Aggies' four hits. Freshman Tehani Kaaihue doubled in the same inning and eventually wound up on third representing the tying run and their fellow classmate Teresa Conrad was the batter of record on the final out. Conrad, if you recall, drew a two out walk against Hawai'i in a similar situation in last weekend's opener against Hawai'i and represented the tying run in that game. Even though the Aggies have fallen short in these situations, their freshmen continue to shine in those spots and it is certainly something that the coaching staff can be happy about.
Unfortunately the loss drops the Aggies to 0-7 in league play. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately depending on the way the rest of the weekend plays out), the Nevada Wolf Pack also lost yesterday falling in extra innings to San Jose State. The Spartans entered the weekend tied with Nevada in the win column, each a game ahead of the Aggies in the win column. As we mentioned yesterday it's imperative that the Aggies win this series in order to keep pace with whoever wins the Nevada/San Jose State series as the Aggies will face both of those two teams head to head (Nevada next weekend at home and SJSU toward the end of the season on the road).
The Aggies will wrap up the series against La. Tech today with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. MT. Live Stats will be available for both games via the Louisiana Tech athletic website.
