The Aggie baseball team snapped their seven game losing streak with a 10-7 victory over Hawai'i in the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon. The Aggies' victory wrapped up a 14-9-1 conference campaign. Their 14 conference victories are the most since joining the WAC in the 2006 season and more importantly the victory puts the Aggies in a position to clinch at least the 2-seed in the upcoming WAC Tournament.
There will be a ton of scoreboard watching this weekend as the rest of the WAC finishes up conference play. San Jose State and Fresno State split their series this past weekend putting the Bulldogs two losses ahead of the Aggies. Nevada took three of four from Sacramento State, however, the victory by the Aggies yesterday means that Nevada must sweep Louisiana Tech in order to pass the Aggies for 2nd place. New Mexico State will wrap up the 2-seed with one victory by Louisiana Tech this coming weekend in their series with Nevada in Reno.
The Aggies can still hold out hope for the regular season title and the number one seed in the conference tournament. The Aggies would clinch the regular season title if Sacramento State wins three games versus Fresno State this weekend in Fresno. It's certainly not out of the equation for Sacramento State to win the series versus Fresno State. The Hornets won their series with Hawai'i to open the conference season.
The Aggies will wrap up the regular season with a two-game series versus USC in Los Angeles at Dedeaux Field on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Trojans are 23-28 overall and 5-16 in the Pac 10 and are coming off a three game sweep at the hands of cross-town rival UCLA.
