Joon Lee Wins William H. Tucker Invitational; Aggies Finish Fourth

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Junior Joon Lee tied for first place at the William H. Tucker Invitational on Saturday afternoon, firing a final round score of 5-under par, 67. He finished the tournament at 4-under par, 212. The Aggies placed fourth as a team, recording the only under par team score in the final round of play. NM State finished 14-over par, 878 for the tournament.

“It was a whole team effort today,” head coach Scott Lieberwirth said. “We are capable of shooting these types of scores and 5-under par with the way the course was set up today is outstanding. If we can put together more days likes this we will win some tournaments. Joon, Tim (Madigan) and (Justin) Shin all played great golf today. Joon is a great player and managed the course to perfection today.”

Senior Tim Madigan also finished the tournament under par, at 1-under, 215. In the final round, Madigan carded a 1-under par, 71, placing fifth overall. He tallied three birdies in the final round. Junior Zachery Fullerton tied for 30th overall with a three-round score of 9-over par, 225. He fired a final round score of 1-over par, 73, with five birdies on the scorecard.

Sophomore Justin Shin carded a final round score of even par, 72, placing tied for 41st overall for the tournament with a three-round score of 11-over par, 227. Shin had just one birdie on the day. Junior Gaston De La Torre recorded a final round score of 3-over par, 75, finishing tied for 54th overall. His three-round score totaled 15-over par, 231.

San Diego State took the team title at 10-over par, followed by North Texas (+11), New Mexico (+12), NM State (+14) and BYU (+21). Joining Lee in first-place individually was Carlos Ortiz of North Texas and Andrew Putnam of Pepperdine.

The Aggies will be back in action on Oct. 11-12 at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
