Aggie Soccer Falls 3-0 To Utah State

Dani De La VinaThe Aggie soccer team lost its conference home opener falling 3-0 to preseason favorite Utah State on Sunday afternoon. The Aggies drop to 6-4-2 overall and 0-2-0 in league play after the first weekend.

Utah State's Kendra Pemberton put the visiting Aggies up 1-0 in the 16th minute. Neither team would score in the remainder of the half as New Mexico State was outshot 8-2.

Utah State would add to their total in the 55th minute as Katie Crosland snuck a ball past Aggie goal keeper Mikaela Bitner to put USU ahead 2-0.

The Aggies would still trail by two goals when Utah State's Lauren Hansen would score in the 90th minute on an assist from Shantel Flanary to make the margin 3-0.

The Aggies recorded five shots in the second half but could not find the back of the net and they finished the match with seven shots while Utah State had 15. Aggie goal keeper Mikaela Bitner was credited with six saves on the afternoon while USU goal keeper Molli Merrill had one.

The Aggies head on the road as they continue WAC play in the state of Idaho where they'll face Boise State on Friday at 4:00 p.m. MT and Idaho on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. MT.
