The Aggie soccer team scored in the 2nd minute of their match with Idaho but a pair of goals by Idaho in the waning minutes of the first half were too much for the Aggies to overcome as they fell 4-1 to Idaho on Sunday afternoon. "We started very well and did a good job of sticking to what our gameplan was but then kind of got away from it in the last 10 minutes of the first half," said head coach Michael Needham after the match. "The last five minutes of the first half they [Idaho] put a lot of pressure on us and we made a couple of mistakes."

Lauren Cope put the Aggies on the board just a minute and fifty five seconds into the contest as she knocked in a rebound off a shot by Kristen Powers putting the Aggies ahead 1-0. It was Cope's second goal of the 2010 season and Powers' first assist of the season and it ended a nearly 193 minute scoreless drought by the Aggie offense.

The Aggies would hold on to the 1-0 lead until the 42nd minute when Idaho's Erica Hart found the back of the net. Idaho's Lauren Layton and Chelsea Small were credited with assists on the play as Layton threw in to Small who headed the ball to Hart.

The Vandals would take the lead two minutes later on an unassisted goal by Chelsea Small that passed through the hands of Aggie freshman goal keeper Erin Wosick who started the game in place of the injured Mikaela Bitner and the Aggies would head to halftime trailing 2-1. "She [Erin] made a couple of very big saves for us," said Coach Needham. Wosick was credited with 11 saves on the match, a career-high.

Idaho would score eight minutes into the second half as Christina Boddie scored unassisted in the 54th minute of play giving the Vandals a 3-1 advantage.

The Vandals would cap the scoring in the 81st minute as Jill Flockhart would score on an rebounded shot by Chelsea Small giving the Vandals a 4-1 lead.

Neither team would score in the final 19 minutes.

"We gave up two goals right before halftime which really hurt us," said Coach Needham. "As we continue to grow and continue to build, we don't give up those two goals before halftime and you go in at 1-0 and have a chance to go in and regroup a little bit and go from there." He added, "It's emotional when you give up two goals in the last 10 minutes of the half. That hurt us pretty good."

Coming off the 6-0 loss to Boise State on Friday Coach Needham felt his team's effort was much better to start the game than it had been on Friday afternoon. "I thought it was good, I thought it was really good for the first 40 minutes and then the last 50, again I think those two goals right before halftime were difficult ones to deal with because both goals were ones that we shouldn't have given up. Those really hurt you emotionally as you go into a half."

The Aggies return home for a pair of crucial conference matches against Fresno State and San Jose State on Friday and Sunday. "We'll be focusing on defending both individual and team defending this week in practice," said Coach Needham. "We'll also be focusing on being harder because I still think we're a little soft."

"We're excited to come home. We're in a place that we're going to push and we're going to go for it and our destiny is still in our own hands and you've just got to win games. That's a good spot to be in," said Coach Needham. "Even at 0-4, I'm not worried about that, I'm more worried about us getting back to what Aggie soccer is and that's working hard and playing hard. We'll do that and we'll be ready on Friday."
