The Daily Aggie :: 11/21/10

It was a tough day for Aggie fans of just about any sport yesterday as three of the four teams competing yesterday were beaten and beaten soundly. The Aggie equestrian team was the only Aggie team to come out of the day with a victory as they defeated Fresno State.

As for football, women's basketball and men's basketball, the three teams lost and lost big. The Aggie football team lost to Nevada 52-6 in Reno. Just about the only good thing about the game was that at Nevada didn't roll up 844 yards of offense as they did against Idaho a couple weeks ago. The Aggies were able to hold the Wolf Pack to under 500 yards and did a fairly decent job against Colin Kaepernick in the run game.

The Aggies will wrap up the 2010 season next Saturday against Hawai'i. The Warriors defeated San Jose State 41-7 yesterday and threw for a school record 560 yards.

The Aggie women's basketball team went through a first half scoring drought and fell behind by 14 points at halftime and just could not recover and lost by 20 points to a veteran Houston Cougar team last night in the Aggies' home opener.

Tabytha Wampler finished the night with 14 points and seven rebounds, Jasmine Lowe finished with 18 points and Madison Spence finished with 14 points. The rest of the Aggies combined for 16 points.

Up next for the Aggies is a home game against Western New Mexico on Monday night. It will be the first of three games this week as the Aggies will also host their Thanksgiving Classic. All three games this week are very winnable for the Aggies.

The Aggie men's basketball team had an even worse time than the Aggie women's basketball team falling behind by 19 points at halftime. The Aggies could hit nothing in the first half hitting just seven shots while UMass did not have that problem hitting 67 percent in the half. The Aggies were able to cut the deficit to 12 points on a couple of occasions in the second half but just couldn't get the deficit into single-digits.

The Aggies have to rebound quickly as they face USC today at 12:30 p.m. MT. The Trojans led Bradley until the very last second as the Braves hit three free throws with under a second left to steal the game.

USC will not be a happy team after losing in that manner and coming off a 20-point loss to Rider as well.

Today's game can be heard on the Aggie Sports Network and streaming audio will be available via Aggie Access (subscription required).
