ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Juniors Stephanie Eusebe and Paulina Zuniga won both of their doubles matches to take the title of the B doubles draw Saturday for the New Mexico State women's tennis team at the New Mexico Individual Invitational.

Eusebe and Zuniga defeated UTEP Vicky Michaud and Harmonie Chatagner, 8-4, to advance to their second straight doubles championship match. There they defeated UNM Maria Sotirchos and Mackenzie White in a thrilling match, 9-7.

Assistant coach Ivan Fernandez was excited to see his doubles team win the match against their in-state rivals.

"It was great to see them win the championship match after being rained out of their championship match in Houston two weeks ago," Fernandez said. "They fought hard in the match and highlighted the day for us."

In the A doubles flight, sophomore Aleksa Costa and freshman Bianca Discordia bounced back after losing their first match of the day to defeat Idaho's Irimescu/Siwa, 8-3, in consolation action.

The Aggies had a tough day in singles action, but Discordia was able to win a three-set match to Fernandez's delight. The win was the only one on the day in singles play for NMSU.

"Today was another tough day," Fernandez said. "We were just a few points away from having a really good day on the singles court. Bianca under some pressure pulled an out important match for her."

Discordia defeated Air Force's Erika Shortridge, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, to pick up her second victory of the weekend. She faces Northern Arizona's Yumi Hasegawa Sunday morning in the third place match in the B singles flight.
