Aggie Women Survive At San Jose State 52-46, Improve To 2-0 In WAC

The Aggie women's basketball team survived a scare from San Jose State coming from behind to win 52-46 and improved to 2-0 in WAC play. San Jose State's Sara Plavlijanin scored a career-high 28 points and single-handedly kept the Spartans in the game the entire night. Tabytha Wampler tied for team-high honors with 12 points and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line and 4-of-4 in the final 30 seconds to help the Aggies win the game.

The Aggies jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead to start the game as Danisha Corbett buried a three and Madison Spence followed with a jumper. The Aggies would hold an 8-4 lead with 15:59 left in the half but the Spartans would close to within one point at 10-9 after a three pointer from Sara Plavljanin. The Aggies would extend their lead to five at 14-9 after a layup by Kaitlyn Soto with 13:25 left in the half but the Spartans would go on a 10-5 run over the next eight minutes to tie the game at 19 with 5:35 left to play. The Spartans would outscore the Aggies 9-2 over the final 3:38 and take a 28-21 lead into the halftime break.

The Aggies opened up the second half on a 12-5 run over the first five and a half minutes to tie the game at 33 as Danisha Corbett hit a layup and was fouled on the play. Corbett would miss the free throw but the Aggies would retake the lead, 36-33, as Jasmine Lowe would get a steal and layup and also get fouled on the play, converting the three point play with 13:24 left to play. After a free throw from San Jose State, Danisha Corbett would hit a three to give the Aggies a 39-34 lead with 10:31 left to play. Madison Spence would hit one of two free throws to extend the Aggies' lead to 40-34 but the Spartans would go on a 5-0 run to cut the Aggies' lead to 40-39. Tabytha Wampler would hit a pair of free throws with 7:17 left to play to give the Aggies a three point lead but the Spartans would get a pair of buckets to retake the lead 43-42 with 6:29 left in the game.

Jasmine Lowe would hit a layup with 5:09 left to give the Aggies a one point advantage but Sara Plavljanin would bury a three to give San Jose State a 46-44 lead with 4:21 left to play. The Aggie defense would stiffen over the final four minutes of the game as the Spartans would commit four turnovers and shoot 0-for-3 from the floor and the Aggies would get a layup from Madison Spence and Tabytha Wampler would go 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 2:35 as the Aggies would go on for the 52-46 win.

Wampler and Jasmine Lowe would tie for team-high honors with 12 points apiece. Neither shot well from the floor as they combined for 5-of-22 shooting but were a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw stripe combined. Madison Spence added 11 points and Danisha Corbett added eight points.

Sara Plavljanin scored a career-high 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting as she finished 5-of-6 from three point distance and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. No other Spartan had more than five points at Brittany Johnson scored five points while Sayja Sumler and Marisa Williams each had four. Liz Johnson added three points, all from the free throw line, and Leonie Solia added two points.

The Aggies improve to 8-8 overall and 2-0 in league play.
