Aggie Women Fall 85-63 At Louisiana Tech

Madison Spence and Jasmine Lowe combined for 30 points but the New Mexico State women's basketball team fell 85-63 at Louisiana Tech on Monday night.

The Aggies trailed early 11-4 but pulled to within a bucket at 13-11 on a jumper by Ariella McGhee with 14:44 left in the first half. The Aggies would continue the run taking a 14-13 lead on a three pointer from Jasmine Lowe but the Lady Techsters would score four in a row to take a 17-14 lead. After a free throw from Jasmine Lowe cut the Techsters' lead to two at 17-15, Louisiana Tech would go on a 16-2 run to take a 16 point lead going ahead 33-17 with 7:28 left in the first half.

Madison Spence would end the point run by the Techsters with a jumper and spark a 15-6 run over the final seven minutes by the Aggies as they went into halftime trailing just 39-32.

The Lady Techsters would open the second half on a 7-0 run taking a 46-32 lead. The Aggies would cut the lead to 11 at 56-45 on a three pointer from Jasmine Lowe with 12:49 left to play but the Lady Techsters would respond with a 4-0 run to extend their lead back to 15 points with 11:44 left to play. The Aggies would fall behind by 19 after a pair of Whitney Jones free throws but would crawl back to within 14 on a layup by Madison Spence with 3:50 left to play that made the score 75-61. LA Tech would again answer extending the lead back to 18 points with just over three minutes left and the Lady Techsters would score the final six points of the game making the final score 85-63.

The Aggies shot just 33.3 percent from the field and hit just two three pointers on the night while Louisiana Tech hit 7-of-13 three point attempts (53.8 percent) and 47.6 percent from the field.

Each team finished with four players in double-figures as Jasmine Lowe (16), Madison Spence (14), Jasmine Rutledge (10) and Tabytha Wampler (10) combined for 50 of the Aggies' 63 points. Adrienne Johnson and Jasmine Bendolph each scored 17 for the Lady Techsters and Johnson added 13 rebounds before fouling out. Whitney Jones scored 16 and Tarkeisha Wysinger-Mackey added 14. for the Lady Techsters.

New Mexico State falls to 4-4 in league play while the Bulldogs improve to 9-0 in WAC play. The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in the Pan American Center.
