LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State Equestrian team defeated Oklahoma State, Saturday afternoon at the NM State Equestrian Center, 6-4. This was a Western only competition. The Aggies took the Horsemanship event and the Reining event, 3-2.

“I thought the ladies rode with confidence and purpose today,” assistant coach, Robin Morris said. “We stepped up as a team a rode the way we needed too. I think Christina (Keyes) really benefited from the experience she gained last semester and it showed today. I expected a lot of good things out of her this spring. Chelsea (Campbell) is a very unique rider in the fact that she can ride in both Horsemanship and Reining and excel in each discipline. I thought she had a tremendous day for us and I look forward to watching her this spring.”

In the Reining competition, Christina Keyes led the way for the Aggies, earning her first career MVP honor by beating one of the Cowgirls’ top riders in Caroline Daniels, 74.5-71.5. Chelsea Campbell defeated Oklahoma State’s Bri Parnell, 71-66.5, while Tara Wilson handled Jenna Blumer, 76.5-74.

The Horsemanship team was led by Campbell, who earned her second win on the day by beating Ashley Kennedy in their head-to-head competition by a score of 79.5-76. Kyra Cruse matched up against Oklahoma State’s Marissa Dalton. Cruse would beat Dalton, 68.5-67. Jessica Woolsey earned the final point for the Aggies by a narrow margin over Marnie Tomlin, 76.5-76.

The Aggies will be back in action on Feb. 26-27, at the Bulldog Tournament in Athens, Ga.
