Aggies Set To Hire Former Kent State Head Coach Doug Martin As Offensive Coordinator

The Record Publishing is reporting that New Mexico State will hire former Kent State head coach Doug Martin as its next offensive coordinator.

Abram Elam, former Kent State and current Cleveland Brown safety first tweeted Sunday afternoon that his former head coach Doug Martin is headed to New Mexico State as the new offensive coordinator and earlier this afternoon Ryan Lewis, beat writer for also tweeted that Martin had accepted the position.

There has been no official announcement from New Mexico State regarding the hiring but in any event it appears that the Aggies are closing in on filling the position.

Martin resigned as head coach at Kent State after the final game last season collecting a 28-53 record in seven seasons but is and is credited with helping improve the talent level and raise expectations around the Kent State football program.

Martin brought in several players to Kent State who went on to play in the NFL, most notably, Josh Cribbs who is currently with the Cleveland Browns. Cribbs finished his career at Kent State as teh school's all-time leader in offensive yards (10,839). Other school records include rushing touchdowns (38), pass completions (616), pass attempts (1,123), passing yardage (7,169), touchdowns scored (41), and points scored (246).
