Aggies Sweep Binghamton In Doubleheader, Sweep Second Consecutive Series

The New Mexico State baseball team took both games of a Saturday doubleheader against Binghamton to complete their second consecutive four-game sweep and improve to 19-5 on the season.

The Aggies pounded out 13 runs on 14 hits in a 13-5 victory in game one behind a complete game outing from Ryan Beck who allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out seven and walking just two Bearcat batters.

In the second game the Aggies scored a pair of runs in the first inning and held the lead throughout as they got a strong outing from Riley Bevill who pitched 6.1 innings giving up two runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking two.

GAME ONE
After a scoreless first inning by both teams the Aggies jumped on the board scoring three runs in the second inning. The Aggies would get a sacrifice RBI from Tyler Forner to take a 1-0 lead. the Aggies added a pair of runs with two outs as they got an RBI single from Tanner Waite and an RBI double from Zach Voight.

The Aggies would add a run in the top of the third getting a sacrifice fly RBI from Chuck Howard scoring Parker Hipp to go up 4-0.

After the Bearcats cut the Aggies' lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth, the Aggies would push across four runs in the bottom of the fifth. getting a RBI from Chuck Howard, a two RBI double from Tyler Forney and an RBI single from Tanner Waite to go up 8-2.

The Bearcats would again score two runs to cut the Aggies' lead to 8-4 but New Mexico State would answer with five runs in the bottom of the sixth as Chuck Howard would collect and RBI single, Tyler Forney would get a sacrifice fly RBI, Wesley Starkes would add a two RBI double and Tanner Waite would add an RBI single.

The Bearcats added one run in the top of the seventh to make the final score 13-5.

Tyler Forney finished the day 1-for-2 with four RBIs, Tanner Waite went 4-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs while Chuck Howard went 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

Ryan Beck went the distance for the Aggies to improve to 4-2 on the season as he allowed five runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts against just two walks.

GAME TWO
The Aggies would take an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as they would get an RBI single from Zach Voight and Tanner Waite would score on a strikeout and pickoff by the Bearcats.

Each team would score a run in the third inning keeping the Aggies ahead 3-1.

The Aggies would hold the Bearcats scoreless through the sixth inning and would add another run in the bottom of the sixth getting an RBI double from Zach Fisher to go up 4-1.

After the Bearcats cut the lead to 4-2 scoring a run in the top of the seventh, the Aggies would get a two RBI single from Zach Voight to push their lead to 6-2.

Binghamton would cut the Aggies' lead to 6-3 in the top of the eighth but the Aggies would answer the run in the bottom of the eighth getting an RBI single from Wes Starkes.

Scott Coffman would come in to pitch the ninth and sent the Bearcats down in order to preserve the victory.

Riley Bevill picked up the victory to improve to 1-1 as he went 6.1 innings giving up just two runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts and a pair of walks. Gerardo Renteria pitched .2 inning striking out two and Justin Cooper pitched one inning giving up a run and a hit with a pair of walks and three strikeouts. Scott Coffman struck out two in the ninth.
