LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Two New Mexico State softball players earned 2011 CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District softball team honors Friday as senior Kandis Jones was named a First Team All-District VI selection while sophomore Teresa Conrad was a Second Team All-District VI honoree.

"We are very proud of Kandis and Teresa," said associate head coach Cat Heifner. "Both young women are brilliant and work hard both on and off the field. This honor recognizes high achievers in both arenas. I believe the awards are hard earned and well-deserved.

Jones is a community health major currently with a 3.88 cumulative grade point average in her final semester at NM State. This is the second academic all-district accolade for Jones after making the team during her sophomore campaign in 2009. She is also a three-time member of the Academic All-WAC Team. Two weeks ago, Jones was recognized by NM State as the 2011 female Outstanding Athletic Scholar.

Jones has spent four years in a Crimson and White uniform, playing in 214 career games and making 201 starts. Last weekend, she set a new single-season record of 71 hits, after notching three hits at Hawai'i. Earlier this season, Jones broke a pair of Aggie career records in hits and runs scored. She currently boasts 168 career runs scored and is the active leader in the WAC this season. Her 54 runs scored this year lead the WAC and ranks second at NM State for a single season. Jones is also the active leader in the league with 253 career hits. Jones leads the WAC with 75 hits, is first in the league with 54 runs scored and ranks second with a .405 batting average.

As a first team all-district member, Jones will advance to the national ballot for a chance to be recognized as an Academic All-American while competing against athletes from across the country.

Conrad is a marketing major currently with a 3.74 cumulative grade point average. She earned 2010 WAC All-Academic Team honors as a freshman and is on pace to repeat that feat in her second year. This season she has almost doubled her batting average from .183 in 2010 to .336 in 2011. She has also more than tripled her home run numbers from two as a freshman to eight this season.

Playing primarily at shortstop in 2010, Conrad helped NM State rank No. 7 nationally last season in double plays. This season, the infielder ranks fourth in the WAC with 41 RBI. Her 35 runs scored ranks sixth in the conference. Her .582 slugging percentage ranks fourth on the team.

Jones, Conrad and their teammates wrap up the regular season Saturday with a doubleheader against Boise State that will decide the WAC regular season championship. One Aggie victory claims a share of the title, two wins earns NM State an outright championship. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at the NM State Softball Complex.
