EL PASO, TX -The New Mexico State soccer team fell at UTEP, 2-0, in the 2011 season opener after a pair of late goals.

Freshman forward Jennae Cambra led the Aggie offense with four shots and two shots on goal. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Erin Wosick anchored the Crimson and White with five saves.

"The game was very evenly played and something like that, a set piece can change a game," head coach Blair Quinn said. "I thought the battle back and forth was good. I thought their style and our style was a very interesting mix and both teams did a good job of trying to impose their will."

At halftime, the Aggies and Miners posted a scoreless tie. The first half saw a great pace of play with NM State taking four shots and UTEP recording five.

In the 11th minute of the match, sophomore midfielder Daisy Hernandez headed a ball for the Aggies first shot of the contest. The NM State offense kept the pressure on and freshman midfielder/forward Katie Smith tallied her first career shot that sailed wide right at the 18th-minute mark.

After solid Aggie defense, NM State responded late in the half with a pair of shots from Cambra in the 41st and 45th minute of the match.

Cambra gave the Aggies their first scoring opportunity in the second half with a shot in the 70th minute. Two minutes later, Smith attacked for her second shot of the contest.

In the 76th minute, UTEP's junior midfielder Tess Hall scored on a free kick to give the Miners a 1-0 advantage. UTEP added another goal in the 81st minute of action. The Aggies answered with a final charge with a shot from Cambra in the 84th minute. Junior forward Cassie De Leon posted her first shot of the year in the 87th minute, while Hernandez took the last shot in the final minute of the game.
