LAS CRUCES, N.M. - In the final minute of regulation, sophomore midfielder Mary Kate Koziol scored the lone goal of the match to give the New Mexico State soccer team a 1-0 win over Northern Colorado.

The victory ties the school record for consecutive wins with five, and the Aggies improved to 5-2-0, while the Bears slipped to 1-4-1.

"It was very exciting," head coach Blair Quinn said. "It was what we have been asking them to do for an entire 90 minutes. It just happened to keep going. Obviously, the tension builds in the last few minutes of a game like that, so it gets more exiting. I think we did the same things for 90 minutes of the game, and it was a great finish. It was a great strike on goal."

With only 20 seconds remaining in the contest, junior defender Vanessa Thomas found Koziol in the center of the box for the game-winning goal. Koziol leads the Aggies with three goals this season, while the assist was a career first for Thomas.

"MK (Koziol) has been our best player the last three weeks consistently from Friday to Sunday, game to game and in practice as well," Quinn said. "She is finally starting to figure out that role. So that was awesome."

NM State controlled the ball throughout the night and had a 14-5 lead in shots along with five corner kicks. Freshman midfielder Bree Luhrsen led the Aggies with a game-high five shots. Defensively, NM State posted its fourth shutout of the season, with sophomore goalkeeper Erin Wosick grabbing a pair of saves.

The Aggies and Bears played to a scoreless tie after 45 minutes of action. NM State had a 5-2 advantage in shot attempts.

NM State continues its home stand and hosts Arkansas-Little Rock, Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. inside Aggie Memorial Stadium.
