The Daily Aggie :: 10/21/11

The Aggie soccer team is back in action today as they take on San Jose State out in San Jose. The Aggies currently have four points in conference play and are a point ahead of Nevada and Louisiana Tech and are tied with the Spartans. A pair of victories and six points would assure the Aggies of a spot in the conference tournament. Four points from the weekend, a win and a tie, would not guarantee them a spot but it would give them eight points total and would at least keep them in the top six heading into the final weekend of play. Anything less, a pair of ties, a loss and a tie or a pair of losses would leave the Aggies in a precarious situation heading into the final weekend, one in which they only play one match, against current league leader Hawai'i.

San Jose State is 3-10-1 overall but don't let their record fool you. They have played very tough against some outstanding competition. They lost by a goal to both the No. 13 and No. 15 teams in the country early in the season and they have a one-goal loss against Fresno State (one of the better teams on the west coast) and tied Hawai'i in Honolulu last weekend.

Kelsey Lord is by far their most dangerous player with four goals and three assists. Meghan Maiwald has started in goal in all 14 games the Spartans have played.

The Aggies need to start fast and apply the type of pressure they did against both Nevada and Idaho (second half and both overtime periods). If they can do that, they can absolutely come out of this game with a win and three points.

The match is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. (MT) kickoff. Live Stats will be available via the SJSU athletic website (link available 15 minutes prior to the start of the match).
