Aggie Swimming And Diving Falls In Season Opener At TCU

FORT WORTH, TX - The New Mexico State swimming and diving team opened the 2011-12 campaign on the road at TCU. The Horned Frogs edged the Aggies, 138-105.

"We had some tough swims, however, in the end the things we needed to win did not happen," head coach Rick Pratt said. "We were very sluggish, especially in the first third of the meet. Freshmen Aliena Schmidtke and Jessica Legge had some good performances as did Terrin Seaver, Tricia Kiss, Alex Fenton and Maria Spies."

In her Aggie debut, freshman Jessica Legge won the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke. Junior Hannah Farrin followed in third in the 200 fly, while senior Maria Spies captured second in the 200 breast.

Junior Beth Cate earned top honors in the 200 individual medley, and senior Carly Smith swept the diving events.

"The best thing out of this meet was the job our divers did," he said. "They both performed new dives and did a great job. For Carly to qualify for zones right now was pretty amazing, and I'm excited about the progress coach (Molly) Parker is making with them."

In the 200 back, sophomore Terrin Seaver collected a first-place showing, while sophomore Tricia Kiss scored in third place.

The Aggies continue their road trip at North Texas, Saturday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m.
